My NEW CAMERA arrived!

So it was my belated new years resolution to finally keep the Poppy Treffry blog up to date! In my head I will be putting pen to paper – fingers to keyboard – every Sunday but we’ll see how it goes!

The most exciting thing that happened this week was…My NEW CAMERA arrived! I have been excited ever since I ordered it 2 weeks ago, it took it’s time to get across the pond to me but it was well worth the wait….

It’s technically so that I can get back to taking lovely lifestyle shots of our products (when Justin and I divided up our workshops he got the camera and I got the charger! So I’ve had no camera since May) But I had to get testing it the minute the battery was charged and here are some of the early results….

Great news folks! We’ve been very busy over the last few months, working on lots of lovely new things! Some you’ll get to see in the next few weeks and others you’ll have to wait another couple of months for, booo!!

As it’s Friday and everyone has been very well behaved this week we thought we’d give you a sneak preview of our new embroidered cushions collection. These beautiful big cushions are the result of a collaboration with local artist and designer Samuel Winterbourne, who we think is a very talented young man and sure to go far. We’ll be launching the beautiful Love Nest cushion in time for Valentines day so this is a Friday teaser/ treat for you, to whet the appetite!!

Happy new year from all the team at Poppy Treffry. Here’s to making 2012 a year of wonder, beauty and fun!

A while back we told you about some of the various places our fabric scraps appear and recently we were sent some lovely new pics of a toddler group in Hayle and the fun they’ve been having. Fabric + glue = Happy kids!

Drum roll please for the big sack contents reveal. We’ve wrestled Santa to the ground, nabbed his sack and opened it up to give you all a look. We’ll apologise to him in a mo and give him a double brandy!

Poppy Treffry and Bettys tea rooms

We know we’ve been a little quiet of late but we have a great excuse! We’ve been really busy creating a wonderful collection for the very lovely Bettys shop, cafe and Tea rooms. We’ve loved and admired them and their fancies from afar for a while now so were very excited to be working with them, though at times the sampling cakes to get just the right colours and feel reflected in the designs was tough but we say ‘all in the line of duty!’.

Our final collection comprises charming gifts featuring a delicious design inspired by the silver trays of delicate fancies that you’ll find in Bettys Cafe Tea Rooms. The fancies adorn aprons, tea towels and of course… a tea cosy (well it wouldn’t be us without a tea cosy would it?!)

Stockist of the month – August

Please give a big welcome to our Stockist of the month for August…. The lovely Örling & Wu of Vancouver (A little way up the road from Fowey!!). We’ve chosen Örling & Wu as our second stockist of the month because we think their shop looks beautiful! They are flying the Poppy Treffry flag in Vancouver and all the communcations we have from them are so friendly and nice that we can imagine visiting the shop is a very pleasant experience!

A whole day of joyful stitching!

So last week my lovely new workshop played host to it’s first freehand machine embroidery day courses.
the singer sewing machines gleamed, the biscuits were melt in the mouth yum and lunch at Trereife was gorgeous!
But most importantly in between, nattering, drinking tea, getting a teeny bit competitive and mucking about with piles of yummy fabrics everyone managed to make either a bag or a tea cosy to take home with them!

July see’s the first launch of our new Stockist of the month feature. Each month we want to tell you about one of our lovely stockists out there in the world selling our lovely products.

We have chosen the lovely folk over at Cry of the Gulls gallery in Fowey, Cornwall as our first stockist of the month. They have been one of our longest standing stockists and they even have a little Poppy shop within their gallery! Cry of the Gulls is a beautiful gallery in the heart of Fowey, Cornwall. It displays a diverse range of paintings, ceramics, jewellery and accessories. This is a Cornish gallery at heart but it is also dedicated to introducing new artists and craft makers to the county.

The Gallery is celebrating its 20^th Birthday this summer and it has been on quite a journey.

The galleries original owners emigrated to New Zealand 7 years ago when Liz and Julian Davies took over the gallery. After a lifetime of working in Art Education they made the move down from Gloucestershire and started their Cornish Life. They have transformed Cry of the Gulls into a vibrant and successful gallery that is at the heart of Fowey. Last year Liz and Julian were joined by their youngest son Oli and his partner Ben. Ben is a Professional Fine Art Photographer and Oli was an actor in London. They have started the Galleries next adventure. This summer sees the launch of their new look website www.cryofthegulls.co.uk with a brand new logo and are easily found via twitter (@cryofthegulls) or Facebook.

Poppy has always been a staple part of the gallery and her distinctive style sits well in this contemporary gallery space.
