A Big City Break in…..Birmingham!

20140527-214253.jpgAs a special birthday treat for my lovely feller Justin, who some of you may know is a jeweller, I recently booked us a 3 night break to Birmingham…yes Birmingham!

I got a fair few quizzical looks as I told people my plans but trust me there was method in my madness!

For a start we would be flying from Newquay airport so already it’s quite exciting and staying somewhere lovely and….and (this is the best bit) touring an amazing disused jewellery factory that’s only occasionally open to the public.

I hope you enjoy the photos and if you’re inspired to visit Birmingham you can find a selection of our products at Smithsonia in the lovely Piccadilly Arcade.

J W Evans Silver Factory – is housed in 3 adjoining terraced houses. I really didn’t believe that’s where the factory that once had over 60 people working in it was going to be!

The Museum of the Jewellery Quarter houses the disused Smith and Pepper jewellery factory. I think the plush office and the benches that squeezed 5 jewellers around them gave Justin some ideas!

The Rowland Emmet Exhibition. This show was amazing and we caught it quite by chance. He made all the wacky machines in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang alongside lots of other mechanical marvels all of which are moving and working in the exhibition – fantastic!
